Letter 3
Less is More
Earl Cassady | Page 115
This letter is important to the archive for its simplicity, which was echoed by at least a dozen other letters in the box.
While it creates contrast by lacking a detailed story or even notable quotes, its lack there of speaks volumes. What these one to two sentence letters show is the importance and reach Mayor Allen's address had. People took time out of their day to write just a few sentences to Mayor Allen, expressing their gratitude, appreciation and admiration, and in this case, for representing the authors views. While it may not appear like much, this small act of writing a letter shows the impact Mayor Allen had on people, when their other choice could have been to say nothing at all.
